Some Things You Need to Know About Invisalign

Posted on

There are many adults who would like to get their teeth straightened. In fact, you can get braces or Invisalign multiple times in life. Even if you have had them in the past that doesn't mean that your teeth won't shift and you will need them again. Luckily, Invisalign is a great way to get your teeth straighten and corrected in a discrete way. Here are some things you need to know about Invisalign.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Invisalign is very similar to braces in how long it takes to complete. If you need braces for a year, it is likely to need Invisalign the same amount of time. In some cases your dentist can speed it up, but this is not the norm, and you should expect to have the same amount of time of conventional braces. This is  because it will take a certain amount of time for the teeth to move and so it will need plenty of time to grow in correctly.

Does Invisalign Work as Well as Braces?

Depending on the reasons you are getting braces, Invisalign can be just as effective. For example, if you are getting braces simply to straighten the teeth, the Invisalign is the right thing for you. The place where you might encounter problems is if your problem is with your jaw. For example, there are some people who have an overbite or under bite. This can cause headaches, and grinding on the teeth.

In order to correct this problem, you might need braces since you need bands on the teeth to help shift them so the jaw corrects itself. Invisalign probably won't work for this problem. You can talk to your dentist or orthodontist about why you want the braces or Invisalign and they will tell you if it will be right for you.

What Are the Advantages of Invisalign?

The best thing about Invisalign is how discrete it is. You can get your teeth straightened without anyone really knowing that you are wearing any kind of brace. The trays are essentially clear and invisible, unless you are looking really closely. They fit right over the teeth and are thin enough that they won't bulk up your mouth. Additionally, they can be removed, unlike braces, so if needed you can take them out.

As you can see Invisalign braces are a great option for many people. Talk to your dentist about possibly getting Invisalign if you think it would be right for you.
